Op 11 maart verschijnt het album van Trey Songz (zanger, producer en acteur) genaamd ‘Passion, Pain & Pleasure’. De langverwachte opvolger van ‘Ready’ is het vierde studioalbum van de Amerikaanse R&B superster en kwam in de Verenigde Staten binnen op #2 in de Billboard Top 200. Voor het album werkte Songz samen met getalenteerde producers als Bei Maejor, Tha Bizness, Mario Winans, Mark Jackson, Kane Beatz en natuurlijk de oprichter van Songbook Entertainment Troy Taylor. ‘Passion, Pain & Pleasure’ laat vocale bekwaamheid horen, die tegelijkertijd een emotionele diepgang en kracht kent. De eerste single van het album heet ‘Bottoms Up’ feat. Nicki Minaj. Bekijk hier de video van ‘Bottoms Up’.
Trey Songz zegt: “While the words Passion, Pain and Pleasure immediately invoke sexual thoughts, for me they have become somewhat of a personal mantra because they so accurately describe this time in my life. The passion I have for my art fuels my drive and work ethic, while the sacrifice of my personal life to benefit my career will always be a source of pain. The pleasure that I derive from my work and my accomplishments make everything worth it. When I began conceptualizing the new album, these three words stuck in my head. They completely infiltrated my creative process, so it was inevitable that they became the album title. This is the album where I talk to the people who think all I can sing about is sex. I take a step further out of that realm, although I do keep one foot in.”
Trey heeft reeds gastbijdrages geleverd aan releases van artiesten als Drake, Mary J. Blige en Fat Joe en was op tour met hiphopicoon Jay-Z. De eerste drie albums van Songz ´I Gotta Make It´ (2005) en ´Trey Day´ (2007), ´Ready (2010) leverde een drietal top tien singles op; ´Girl Tonight´, ´Last Time´ en ´Can´t Help But Wait´. Met het laatstgenoemde nummer vergaarde Trey de fel begeerde Grammy nominatie voor Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. Deze nominatie was de bekrachtiging van het vertrouwen wat de wijlen Ahmet Ertegun van Atlantic Records in Trey had. Ertegun zei over Trey "one of the most promising R&B artists we have had since we started the company 60 years ago."
Op vrijdag 15 april geeft Trey Songz een exclusief optreden, ondersteund door zijn vaste live band, in de Heineken Music Hall te Amsterdam.
