MUSIQUBE: Abe Duque ft. Virginia

26-06-2009 @ 15:03

With Abe Duque's "Don't Be So Mean" just out, it's time for the romantic side of his songwriting to come out. With vocals by Virginia, a killer DJ Hell remix and a wonderfully sultry remake by Tigerskin, "Following My Heart" is an old-school 4AM moment from four big talents.

It follows the much-more-political first single, "Tonight Is Your Answer", which on very limited promo has had raves from a huge range of DJs and styles, from the hardcore to the disco: Marc Romboy, Style of Eye, Tommie Sunshine, Cagedbaby, Anderson Noise, Laurent Garnier, Disco Bloodbath, Cassius, IDJ, DJ Broadcast, Tsugi, John Selway, Tom Pooks, Luke Solomon, Tedd Patterson and Clouded Vision.

And as befits someone who is a regular collaborator with people like Hell, Blake Baxter and Tijana T, this single comes with an unusual competition and an offer to collaborate. As part of the album release, Abe is offering a competition for two people, one in London and one in Berlin, to win a day in the studio with Abe. It can be a masterclass, help with a mixdown or writing a track or remix, or just a Q&A ... to enter, visit www.abeduque.net

Taken from the album DON'T BE SO MEAN.
Abe Duque ha been both a US Marine and a resident DJ at New York's notorious club-kid 90s-club Limelight. He knows how to operate the machine gun on the cover of the album, but wishes there was less call for gunfire. He's been arrested this year for potential terrorism - but only for being found at an airport with a knife issued to him by the US government itself.

And since his first days in music, he's been up, from Limelight to Tresor Berlin to releasing on key techno labels like Tresor, Disko-B under aliases like Rancho Relaxo Allstars and Kirlian. And he's been down, so broke that the first releases on his own label, Abe Duque Records, were released with no labels, no promo - just music on one side and a message from Abe scratched by hand into the vinyl on the back...
